THINGS NOT TO DO WHEN YOU TRAVEL: the trick s to travel better

In travel blogs, it is easier to nd dedicated articles on what to do when traveling, but it is more difficult to nd what NOT to do while traveling. There are many precautions that can be taken to travel better and cheaper. In this article, we have listed  18 things to avoid during the trip, small tricks that we implement ourselves. We say it in English that is cooler: cheaper, smarter, and longer

1. DO NOT EAT IN TOURIST PLACES

Food located near tourist attractions costs at least double the average price and often half the quality, which could be found in less touristy places. The prot of these restaurants is based on quantity and therefore they do not always our quality. Instead, restaurants with less tourist ow must oer good service otherwise local people would also stop going. So instead of opting for a central area, move away from the main tourist attractions and

look for a restaurant that does not look like the classic tourist catcher.

I recommend using sites like Tripadvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.it),  Yelp (http://www.yelp.com/),

2. DO NOT CHANGE MONEY AT THE AIRPORT

If you are traveling to a place that does not have the euro and you are forced to change money, there are a myriad of counters at the airport that oer the exchange of the local currency, according to them the best. It is probably the worst rate at which you can exchange money. To get the best rate, it is better to withdraw from an ATM (ATM), this will be the way to have the commissions similar to the Interbank without taking scams (but be careful of the withdrawal costs of your bank). Another option is to go to the post once in the area which always offers the cheapest exchange rate.

3. DO NOT WITHDRAW WITH CREDIT CARDS WITH INTERNATIONAL

WITHDRAWAL EXPENSES

I don't really like giving money to banks, I want to use my money to travel. Ask your bank how much

your withdrawal fees are abroad, and whether your credit card has costs for overseas transactions. Thus you will avoid unnecessary withdrawal costs and other expenses.

Here is a link that can be useful:  COSTS FOR WITHDRAWALS ABROAD

(http://www.repubblica.it/economia/nanza-personale/2014/07/05/news/costi_prelievo_bancomat90751099/) (Italy).

4. DO NOT SEARCH ONLY IN A SEARCH ENGINE.

All the search engines on the web are guided by advertising depending on where you are browsing and

the cookies stored, so do not limit yourself to looking for travel oers only on a website. Write

down the prices and dates of each and check-in multiple travel portals that oer ours, do not worry

and open different sites until you nd the right oer for you.

5. DO NOT TRAVEL WITHOUT A MAP OF THE PLACE OF DESTINATION.

Finding yourself in a place where you don't speak the local language and you don't know the roads

could be problematic, especially just arrived.

I advise you to invest some time before departure to nd a map and mark the main points of

interest and where you have decided to stay.

One of the maps I use most frequently is on the USEIT (https://www.use-it.travel/home) website

where you can nd European maps created by locals and download them for free.

6. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE ACCOMMODATION IN THE HOSTELS.

Many people think that hostels stink, are dirty, uncomfortable and that they are mainly for students.

But now it's just a stereotype, probably due to television and some urban legend.

I have stayed several times in hostels and I can say that they are many services that do not

disappoint such as pool tables, rooms for watching movies, Xbox, Computers, Free tour, Free WiFi,

organized outputs, free walking tour, not to mention the ease with which you can get acquainted.

By now staying in a hostel is not only for backpackers but also for anyone looking for a place to do

strictly low-cost networking.

7. DO NOT SNOBBE HOSPITALITY EXCHANGE NETWORKS A PRIORI.

Networks such as Couchsurfing (https://www.couchsurng.com/) or Hospitality Club allow all travelers

to stay for free at the home of local people who make their homes available. Do not be fooled by the

name Couch which means Sofa, indeed many people decide to host because they have an extra

room.

I add that it is not only for single travelers. There are some people who give availability for two or

more people. Before submitting a host request, take a look at the feedback received to avoid nasty

surprises.

An interesting alternative is AirBnB, where private individuals or a room for a fee but at very

8. DO NOT TAKE THE TAXI, IF YOU CAN AVOID IT.

The Taxi is one of the most expensive services that a city canoer. In English, you could say "Avoid

them" or avoid them. They could only be convenient if you share shopping with other people.

Try to use public transport as much as possible or, if you are more technological, test the mobile

application greenwich taxis that connects the private drivers with passengers  or with

the networks for the passage sharing (car sharing) as Blablacar
